Open Recorder adds zoom regions to the timeline that magnify part of the recording during playback and export. Zooms can be generated automatically from your recorded pointer activity, or added and adjusted manually in the editor.

Enable automatic zoom

New recordings receive adaptive automatic zooms when Create zooms automatically is enabled in Settings → Recording. The generator analyzes recorded clicks and cursor movement, groups related actions into interactions, and plans a smooth camera path for each one. Related actions stay in view together, pans ease between nearby targets, and low-value moments do not trigger a zoom. Two settings in the same section shape the result:
  • Auto zoom style controls motion timing for generated zooms.
  • Maximum zoom limits generated magnification. The slider ranges from 1× to 3×, with a default of 2×. Lower limits preserve more surrounding context. Setting the limit to 1× disables generated zooms entirely.
Automatic zoom relies on pointer telemetry captured during recording. Imported videos without telemetry receive no automatic regions.

Regenerate automatic zooms

The timeline toolbar includes a Regenerate automatic zooms button, marked with a sparkle icon. Click it to re-analyze the recording’s telemetry with your current settings and replace the generated zooms. While analysis runs, the button shows Generating zooms… and is disabled. Regeneration preserves your work:
  • Manual zoom regions are kept.
  • Automatic regions you have edited are kept. The zoom inspector labels these regions Edited · protected in the Type row.
  • New generated regions skip the intervals those protected regions occupy.
The result applies as a single edit, so one undo restores the previous zooms. Editing an automatic region protects it from future regeneration. Changing its timing retimes the saved camera path, changing its depth rescales the magnification, and changing its focus pins the target.

Zoom transitions

Each zoom region has its own Zoom transition group in the sidebar. Use it to change how the zoom eases in and out without touching the saved camera path or focus. Legacy regions use the timing from their saved zoom style until you adjust a control. Zoom in and Zoom out set the entrance and exit durations, each from 0 to 3 seconds. Setting a duration to 0 makes that side instant. If the sum exceeds the zoom’s playback length, the inspector shows the trimmed durations that will actually be used. Motion picks the shape of the movement:
  • Ease uses a fixed easing curve. Choose Ease in & out, Ease in, Ease out, or Linear from the Easing menu.
  • Spring adds physical settling. Use the Bounce slider (0–100 percent) to tune how playful the spring feels. Low bounce is gently damped; higher bounce adds a livelier rebound. Spring zooms are clamped so they never appear to shrink below 1×.
Both entrance and exit include the full movement and settle, so a segment reaches its target with no visible overshoot at the boundary. Click Reset at the top right of the group to clear your changes and fall back to the saved zoom style’s timing.

Copy transitions between zooms

Open the Copy / Paste menu in the Zoom transition group to reuse a transition across regions:
  • Copy Zoom Transition puts the current settings on an in-app clipboard.
  • Paste Zoom Transition applies the copied settings to the selected zoom. Enabled once something is copied.
  • Copy to All Zoom Transitions applies the current zoom’s transition to every zoom region in the project. Enabled when the project has more than one zoom.
The zoom transition clipboard is separate from the camera layout transition clipboard, so pasting one never overwrites the other.

Overlay camera during zoom

When the camera layout is Overlay, the camera stays on screen during a zoom and shrinks in place so its border and shadow remain inside the canvas. The Scale down on zoom slider in the Layout section of the Camera inspector controls the maximum reduction, from 0 to 75 percent, with a default of 15 percent. At 0 percent the camera keeps its normal size through the zoom. See Timeline camera layouts for the rest of the camera layout controls.

Delete zoom regions

Select a zoom region on the timeline to open it in the inspector. The Delete button removes the selected region. To clear every zoom region at once, click the dropdown arrow on the right side of the Delete button and choose Delete All Zoom Levels. The bulk deletion removes all zoom regions, manual and automatic, as a single edit. One undo restores all of them.
